How PaddockForm works
PaddockForm is a form guide for racing in Britain and Ireland. It puts the card in one place and adds a model order for each race. The order is there to narrow the field. It is not a fact that the first horse will win. Horses lose. The record includes those losses on purpose, so you can see the guide for what it is.
The 1-2-3 is locked at 10am
Each morning the model ranks the runners. You see a first, a second and a third. That 1-2-3 is locked at 10:00 London time, before the day's racing gets going. It is the morning read. It is not rewritten after the off, and it is not filled in later for a race that had no morning lock. If you open a race after the result, you are looking at the order that was stored in the morning, set next to what actually happened.
The horse the model puts first in a race is the Top pick for that race. Every race can have a Top pick. That word is only for the model's first in that race. It is not the word for the day's one selection. Using the same word for both would make the record impossible to read, so the site does not do it.
The Nap
The Nap is the day's single selection. There is one. The rule is fixed and it is public. The Nap is the horse with the highest model win percentage, in a race of five or more runners. A race with fewer than five runners is not where the Nap comes from. The choice is made before the first race. After that it does not move to a different horse because the card looks different, because a result has come in, or because another Top pick has a tidy profile.
If the Nap is a non-runner, the selection is void. It is not replaced. A void is not a win and it is not a loss. The day does not grow a new Nap to fill the gap. That is the whole of the rule. Highest model win percentage, five or more runners, fixed before the first race, void and not replaced if the horse does not run.
The record keeps the losers
Every result stays on the record, losers included. A Top pick that finishes down the field is still part of the story. A Nap that loses is marked lost. A Nap that wins is marked won. A Nap that has not raced yet is marked to run. You can look at the day and see the outcome beside the horse that was named in the morning. Nothing is dropped because it was untidy.
That is the point of a record you can check. A guide that only shows the days it likes is not a record. PaddockForm keeps the morning choice and the result in the same place. You do not have to take anyone's word for the count.
What the model uses
The model uses form, together with market signals (no prices are shown). Form is the horse's recent runs: the figures, the trips, the ground, and the shape of those races. The market signal is a part of the read. You will not see a number for it on the page, and you will not see a formula. We do not publish the workings. The page shows the order that came out, locked at 10am, and then the result when there is one.
You can ignore the order and use the card on its own. The columns are explained in the racecard guide. The figures are explained on their own page. Going and distance have a page too, because those two change what a past run is worth. The model is a second view of the same race, not a replacement for the card.
What you can read without an account
The racecards and these guides are readable when you are signed out. You can open a meeting, read the runners, and come back to the result later. The longer write-up of a race is there once you are signed in. The first seven days are free. After that it is £10 for 30 days. Always. Price promise: £10 for 30 days, and it will never go up for anyone.
None of that changes the morning lock or the Nap rule. Paying to read the write-up does not move the 1-2-3, and it does not buy a different Nap. The selection you see after 10am London time is the one that will be on the record that night, win, lose, or void.
Questions
When is the 1-2-3 locked?
At 10:00 London time each morning. It is not rewritten after the race.
What is a Top pick?
The model's first in that one race. Each race can have its own Top pick. It is not the day's Nap.
How is the Nap chosen?
It is the horse with the highest model win percentage, in a race of five or more runners, and it is fixed before the first race.
What if the Nap does not run?
It is void, and it is not replaced. A void is not counted as a win or a loss.
Are losing selections removed?
No. Every result stays on the record, losers included.
